Kyoto · Blossom Spell

Hanami, flower-viewing, is older than the temples that host it. For a brief, almost unbearable fortnight the cherry trees of Kyoto bloom and fall, and the whole city slows to watch. The Japanese word mono no aware — the gentle sadness of impermanence — was practically invented for this.
